The Oglala Sioux Tribe has secured a $38 million loan from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota.

The tribal council voted 14-2 on Friday to approve the loan agreement, which has been the subject of some controversy on the reservation. President Cecilia Fire Thunder and Treasurer Crystal Eagle Elk are facing a suspension hearing over the handling of the tribe's finances.

The loan will be used to pay expenses and fund a $20 million casino expansion. Thanks to gaming revenues, the Shakopee Tribe has loaned millions and made millions in grants to tribes and tribal organizations.
