Northern Cheyenne Tribe to pay bond in drilling case

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana and an environmental group have been ordered to post a $1,000 bond as part of their coalbed methane development case.

The bond will be shared by the tribe and the Northern Plains Resource Council while the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals hears the case. Drilling has been put on hold in the Powder River Basin of Montana until a ruling is issued.

The tribe and the council say development will harm the environment. The tribe is concerned about the impact drilling has on the Tongue River.
