Convictions of ex-Standing Rock officials upheld

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the convictions of two former officials of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Rinissa Fitzpatrick and Marcia Brave Thunder were convicted last year of stealing from the tribe and lying to federal authorities. The 8th Circuit said the federal government produced "a large amount of evidence" that proved the women were guilty of the crimes.

The women received prison sentences and were ordered to pay restitution. A third person was acquitted.
