Lakota candidate needs money for U.S. House race

Bruce Whalen, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, is seeking funds in his bid to unseat incumbent Rep. Stephanie Herseth (D-South Dakota).

Whalen has raised about $55,000 of a $75,000 target. Herseth, on the other hand, has about $630,000 right now.

Whalen knows he has a big fight ahead but says he has a 50-50 chance of getting elected. Republicans have the edge in voter registrations in the state.

Whalen's campaign manager said he needs to raise about $500,000.
