Trail of Tears expansion bill headed to Bush

A bill to expand the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail is headed to President Bush for his approval.

The bill would add more routes to the trail that Cherokee ancestors were forced to make on their way to Oklahoma. Two key routes had been omitted when the trial was first established 20 years ago.

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma supported the bill. It was sponsored by Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tennessee), who has Cherokee ancestry.
