Abramoff Scandal
IRS asked to probe Norquist's anti-tax organizations

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday, accusing anti-tax activist Grover Norquist of violating tax laws in his dealings with tribes.

Norquist runs Americans for Tax Reform and the American for Tax Reform Foundation. He is an ally of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and received donations from Abramoff's wealthy tribal clients, including the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

CREW's complaint alleges that Norquist used his non-profit organizations as a "commercial enterprise" because they received gaming-related money.

Norquist has bashed Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for investigating Abramoff. Norquist, Abramoff and their allies campaigned against McCain in the 2000 presidential primary with George W. Bush.
