Fire Thunder suspended after being reinstated

Cecilia Fire Thunder is no longer the president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. Again.

Fire Thunder held a press conference on Tuesday to announce that a tribal judge reinstated her. She had been impeached for speaking out against the state's restrictive abortion law.

But as soon as she ended her press conference, a tribal council member called another one in the same room at the offices of the Sacred Circle program in Rapid City. Will Peters announced that the tribal judge had suspended Fire Thunder.

Fire Thunder, the first woman elected to lead the tribe, had no idea about the judge's second decision. She will face another hearing on July 28 on her status.
