Lieberman to run as independent after loss

Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Connecticut) plans to seek re-election as an independent after losing the Democratic primary to challenger Ned Lamont.

Lieberman conceded to Lamont after narrowly losing the race. Lamont had 52 percent of the vote while Lieberman 48 percent.

The major issue in the campaign was Lieberman's support of the Iraq war and other positions that opponents said were too close to the Bush administration's. Lieberman said he would prevail in the general election.
