With nearly all of the ballots counted, Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. and Lynda Lovejoy finished with the most votes in the tribe's presidential primary.

Shirley won 27.9 percent of the vote, followed by Lovejoy at 22.37 percent Coming in third was Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. with 17.26 percent.

Lovejoy and Shirley will face each other in the November general election. Lovejoy is hoping to be the tribe's first female president. She is the first woman in Navajo history to advance to the general election.

Tribal members also cast ballots for Navajo Nation Council seats.
