Delaware Tribe elects Jerry Douglas for full term

Members of the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma elected Jerry Douglas to his first full term as chief.

Douglas began serving as chief when Joe Brooks was ousted following the tribe's loss of federal recognition. The Cherokee Nation sued to have the Delawares removed from the list of recognized tribes.

Douglas supports a deal with the Cherokees to restore recognition. That would require the Delawares to submit to Cherokee authority on land-into-trust, funding, gaming and other matters.
