New Oklahoma tribal tobacco tax rate recommended

The Oklahoma Tax Commission is being urged to adopt a single tax rate for the sale of tobacco at tribal retailers.

The commission currently has seven rates and tax stamps. Non-Indian retailers say one should be used to "level the playing field" with tribal retailers.

Non-Indian retailers pay a tax of $1.03 per pack. Tribal rates range from 6 cents to 86 cents per pack.
