Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe wins Clean Water authority

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe of Nevada has authority to Clean Water Act programs, the Environmental Protection Agency announced on Thursday.

The tribe is the 39th in the nation to receive the "treatment as state" designation from the EPA. It's the first in Nevada.

The tribe will be able to set its own water quailty standards that other jursidictions must recognize. The courts have upheld the right of tribes to do so under amendments to the Clean Water Act.
