Responses: Still saying no to 'Fighting Sioux'
Three responses to a recent opinion that said tribal leaders "seem not willing even to sit down at the table" to discuss the future of the "Fighting Sioux" nickname at the University of North Dakota.

Lous Gray: "There is no honor offered to the Sioux people through this insulting practice, and there never will be. The job of promoting and using the Lakota name and image is the business of the Lakota people."

Sharon Carson: "There is no simplistic “win-win” solution to this longstanding controversy. Because so many American Indian people object to the use of Indian cultural imagery in sports, and because so many members of the extended UND community and educators across the country share those objections, the controversy will only intensify if UND retains the name."

L. Buddy Gwin: "This is not a contest where we worry about win-win. The human rights of a race of people are not negotiable. Dehumanizing an entire race of people through their objectification and by marginalizing them through caricatures must not be tolerated in the 21st Century."
