Louis Gray: No thanks for 'Sioux' awareness
"I have been following the debate on the use of the Fighting Sioux mascot at UND. A lot of the comments have been heard over and over again; but, I’m always amazed at the argument that “the nickname must be retained because otherwise, the tribe will be forgotten.”

I find this most perplexing because at its core, it assumes that the image the school projects is correct or noteworthy. It also assumes that the only way others think of Lakota people is when they show up on a jersey. Both assumptions are incorrect. Furthermore, it’s conceited to believe that only non-American Indians can properly develop and promote the image of American Indians."
