Leader of tiny First Nation in Nova Scotia defends $243K salary
Some members of the Glooscap First Nation in Nova Scotia are upset by the high salaries of their chief and other band leaders.

Chief Shirley Clarke earned about $243,000 last year. Other council members were paid between $210,000 and $260,000, with one earning an additional $718,000 through contracts.

"I’m just so disgusted at what these people are doing" band member Sharon Morine told The Globe and Mail.

Clarke defended her salary and said the band will take more steps to be more transparent. "Our duties are very vast here," Clarke said, the paper reported. "For us this is not a job, this is where we live."
