Oklahoma to incorporate Indian culture in school curriculum

Oklahoma Superintendent Janet Barresi plans to consult with tribes in order to incorporate Indian culture into the public school curriculum.

Barresi believes tribal culture and history can be taught to students at all grade levels. "Oklahoma has a proud culture and I want the rest of the nation and the world to understand that," she said at the American Indian Education Reform Symposium on Monday, the Associated Press reported.

Barresi also plans to consult tribes about the director of Native American education at the Department of Education.
