County takes battle against Mishewal Wappo Tribe to Capitol Hill

Two officials from Napa County, California, were in Washington, D.C., to discuss their federal recognition fight against the Mishewal Wappo Tribe.

The county intervened in a lawsuit the tribe filed against the Interior Department. Officials are worried that the tribe might acquire land in the county or try to open a casino there.

The tribe was terminated by an act of Congress in 1959. The lawsuit claims the federal government failed to abide by the law.
