University of Idaho looking for a boost in Indian enrollment

The University of Idaho is taking steps to increase Indian student enrollment and retention.

American Indian and Alaska Native enrollment has been inconsistent in the last 10 years, The Argonaut reported. But the Native American Student Center sees about 12 to 15 students on a regular basis, the director said.

What the university might lack in students, it makes up for in faculty and staff. There are five Indian members of the faculty and more staff have come on board to reach out to Indian students, particularly at the law school.

“There’s a huge unmet legal need in Native law,” Angelique EagleWoman, an associate professor of law and coordinator of the Native Law Program, told the paper.
