Bill for state jurisdiction retrocession in Washington passes





The Washington Senate approved an amended version of a bill that affects criminal and civil jurisdiction in Indian Country.

Lawmakers voted 42-6 in favor of HB 2233, which sets up a process for the retrocession of the state's jurisdiction under Public Law 280.

The House passed HB 2233 on February 10. Gov. Chris Gregoire (D) supports the measure
