Avis Little Eagle: Standing Rock chair faces removal hearing

"Chante waste nape ciyuzapi, I greet you with a good heart and a warm handshake, people of Standing Rock. My name is Avis Little Eagle, and I am a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council, elected in 2011 to represent the people as an “at-large” Tribal Council representative.

I wanted to explain to the people of Standing Rock why I presented a Notice of Intent to Present Charges of Misconduct in Office and Neglect of Duty on Feb. 27, 2012, against Standing Rock Tribal Chairman Charles W. Murphy, in accordance with the Standing Rock Tribal Constitution and in accordance with Ordinance 181, (Title 19) of the Standing Rock Code of Justice.

On March 8, 2012, I did present eight charges against Chairman Charles W. Murphy, for Misconduct in Office and Neglect of Duty and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council approved to authorize three of those eight charges.

A hearing will be held on those three charges on March 28, 2012, at the Tribal Administration building. According to Ordinance 181, the member of the Council charged can ask for the hearing to be held in Executive Session. The member of the Tribal Council that is charged can have an attorney represent him at this hearing and evidence and witnesses must be presented to prove or disprove these charges."
