Site for sacred Navajo healing ceremony damaged by vandals

Vandals spray painted a hogan where the Yei’ Bi’ Chei healing ceremony will take place in Shiprock, New Mexico.

The hogan, along with several vending booths, were vandalized sometime on Sunday. The incident has been linked to the family that lives on the site where the Yei’ Bi’ Chei ceremony and the Northern Navajo Nation Fair will be held.

“I’m glad somebody wrote those things," family spokesperson Annie King told The Farmington Daily Times. Her family has disputed the presence of the fair at the site, where “No Trespassing” and “Private Property” were spray painted.

The Yei’ Bi’ Chei ceremony begins this Friday and lasts nine days. The fair runs October 4-7.
