Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) said he will introduce an amendment to address tribal jurisdiction provisions in the House Republican version of the Violence Against Women Act.

Cole, a member of the Chickasaw Nation, said the GOP version "falls short" in protecting American Indian and Alaska Native women from violence. He's sponsoring H.R.780, the Violence Against Indian Women Act, that includes jurisdiction provisions that tribes support.

The House Rules Committee is due to take up the GOP version at 4:30pm today. The session will be webcast.
