The Cheyenne River Youth Project is hosting its annual dress drive:
This is the 14th year that the Cheyenne River Youth Project in Eagle Butte has conducted a dress drive before school proms at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, Dupree, Takini, Tiospaye Topa in La Plant and Timber Lake high schools.

CRYP seeks donations of new and gently used formal wear beginning at size 2 with an emphasis on sizes 18 to 24. Also needed are accessories, shoes, make-up, gift cards and cash donations to help high school girls ages 13 and older prepare for their proms and spring formals.

Organizers expect to help between 150 and 200 girls this year. What Passion for Fashion offers is more than a sequined gown, however.

“It’s about building their self-esteem, and community and gathering,” says Suzette Brewer, CRYP spokeswoman. “It’s a totally girly event, but more. There’s a lunch and a speech, this year by Karla Abbott, a Cheyenne River tribal member.”
