Seminole Tribe files papers to acquire struggling bank in Florida

The Seminole Tribe of Florida is getting into the banking business.

The tribe filed papers with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to merge with the Valley Bank in Fort Lauderdale. That institution is in danger of failing without a buyer or a new source of capital, The South Florida Business Journal reported.

That's where the tribe comes in. The tribe is creating a new entity called Seminole Bank to merge with Valley Bank.
