Osage Nation elects Geoffrey Standing Bear as principal chief

Voters of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma elected Geoffrey Standing Bear as their new principal chief on Monday, according to the unofficial results.

Standing Bear, an attorney, defeated Margo Gray by nearly 1,000 votes. The tally was 1,615 to 652.

For the seat of assistant principal chief, Raymond Red Corn defeated Amanda Proctor. The tally was 1,209 to 958.

Standing Bear will succeed John Red Eagle, who was impeached in January after the Osage Nation Congress found him guilty of violating tribal law. Standing Bear was a member of the Congress at the time.
