Interior Secretary Sally Jewell linked controversial rancher Cliven Bundy to a shooting in Nevada that left two police officers dead.

Jewell said Bundy has put people in danger by urging Americans to take up arms against the government. Two people who went to his ranch are accused of killing the officers in Las Vegas.

“[Bundy] put our people in grave danger by calling in armed civilians from around the country, and that’s not okay," Jewell told reporters in Colorado, according to The Washington Post.

Bundy has refused to pay more than $1 million in federal grazing fees to the Bureau of Land Management. His cause was championed by conservative Republicans until he made racist comments about African Americans and slavery.

Last month, his followers took an illegal ride through Recapture Canyon, a BLM site in Utah that is home to ancestral villages and sacred places.
