The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is going back on the road next week with a field hearing in Oklahoma.

Sen. James Lankford (R-Oklahoma), a new member of the Senate, will chair the hearing. He will focus on the successes of Indian- and tribally-owned businesses in the Sooner State.

Oklahoma is home to 39 tribes and Native Americans represent 9 percent of the population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Despite the strong tribal presence, the hearing marks the first time in recent history that the committee has come to the state.

The hearing takes place at 4:30pm on May 27 at the Anadarko High School Auditorium in Anadarko. Native Americans represent nearly 49 percent of the population in the city, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
