District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) is trying to lure the Washington NFL team back to the nation's capital.

But Bowser refuses to use the team's racist name because she considers it to be offensive to Native Americans, The Washington Post reported. She believes the controversial symbol will eventually go away.

“I think the forces around that issue are moving in that direction,” Bowser told the paper.

Bowser's personal view on the mascot hasn't stopped her from trying to find a new home for the team in D.C. The team used to play at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which is located on federal land. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell has indicated she won't entertain talks while the racist name is still on the table.

The team currently plays at FedEx Field in Maryland and has training facilities in Virginia, whose Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) won't take a position on the mascot.
