Dispute over Omaha Reservation boundaries simmers
Friday, September 5, 2003

A dispute over the boundaries of the Omaha Reservation continues to test law enforcement in Nebraska.

At the tribe's request, the state roads department put up signs declaring the boundaries. But the signs were taken down at the request of state attorney general Jon Bruning.

Local officials say the reservation has been diminished, pointing to a court decision in their favor. The tribe disputes the claim and has angered non-Indians by attempting to assert jurisdiction in the contested area.
