Tribes gain non-voting seat on Yellowstone panel

The Inter-Tribal Bison Cooperative has been given a non-voting seat on the Greater Yellowstone Interagency Brucellosis Committee.

Tribes have seen seeking a say in federal bison policy. In particular, they oppose a federal agreement with the state of Montana that allows the state to shoot bison that wander out of Yellowstone National Park.

Tribes say excess bison should be transferred to reservations. Montana opposes the movement of bison and other wildlife, saying the animals could transmit brucellosis, a deadly disease, to cattle.
