Alaska Native educators focus on achievement

The 11th annual Association of Interior Native Educators conference is meeting in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Educators are focusing on ways to improve achievement levels among Alaska Native students. Proficiency among Natives trails the rest of the state, according to statistics.

Some of the ideas presented were recruitment of more Native teachers and tutors, involvement of the community and elder participation. Teachers said tests need to be removed of culturally biased questions.
