Darrell "Chip" Wadena, the former chairman of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, was sentenced to five years probation on Wednesday after pleading guilty to a conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

"I made a mistake, and I apologize," Wadena told the judge, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

Wadena, 67, admitted to playing a role in a scheme launder car titles on two reservation in Minnesota. A co-defendant also pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing.
