Zuni chairman Quetawki ousted in primary election

Arlen P. Quetawki Sr., the incumbent chairman of Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, was ousted in the tribe's primary on Tuesday.

Quetawki and his running mate, Carmelita A. Sanchez, came in third. They lost to Norman Cooeyate and Dancy Simplicio, who received the most votes, and Shirley L. Bellson and Edward W. Wemytewa, who came in second.

If Bellson wins, she will be the first woman to lead the tribe.

The general election is held in December.
