Fire Thunder waits for court date to get job back

Cecilia Fire Thunder, the ousted president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, is filing a new lawsuit over her impeachment.

The tribal court was supposed to hear her case on Friday. But the judge recused herself and a new one hasn't been assigned.

"We’re aware that this is a stall tactic," Fire Thunder said, The Rapid City Journal reports.

Fire Thunder plans to go to the tribal Supreme Court. She says her impeachment was not handled properly.

But her opponents consider Fire Thunder's case to be over. They ousted her after she made public comments against the state's abortion ban and said she would open a women's clinic on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
