United Auburn Indian Community votes for council election

Members of the United Auburn Indian Community of California voted in a tribal council election on Saturday.

Kim Dubach and Brenda Conway were re-elected to the council. Their challengers were Jessica Tavares and Dolly Suehead, who weren't allowed to vote because they have been banished from the tribe.

Tavares, a former chairwoman, and Suehead, a former council member, have been critical of the tribe's current leadership. Tavares has been banished for 10 years and Suehead has been banished for four years.

The tribal council said Tavares and Suehead were punished for criticizing the tribe in the media.
