New Mexico governor pledges $750K aid for Santa Clara Pueblo

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R) promised $750,000 to Santa Clara Pueblo after touring the reservation on Tuesday.

The Los Conchas Fire burned 16,000 acres of the reservation a year ago. Since then, there's been two floods as the tribe awaits millions of dollars in federal assistance.

"Because of the weather and the terrain here, the recovery projects from last year’s flooding are still not near completion," Martinez said in a press release. "The most recent rains have made matters much worse."

The tribe will use the money for sandbags and construction but needs an estimated $39 million to recover.
