William Houle, former Fond du Lac Band chairman, passes on





William "Bill" Houle, a former chairman of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe in Minnesota, died on Sunday. He was 81.

Houle served as chairman from 1974 to 1988. He helped open the tribe's off-reservation casino in Duluth and was a a founding member of the National Indian Gaming Association.

“The legacy of Chairmen Houle’s leadership lives on today with Fond du Lac’s investment in economic stability and community services," Chairwoman Karen Diver told The Duluth News Tribune.
