Neb. faces big debate on four gaming proposals

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2003

A Nebraska legislative committee is holding a hearing today to address four proposals to allow casino-style gaming in the state.

One deals specifically with Indian gaming. It authorizes gaming on the state's three reservations and authorizes gaming within a two-mile "border zone" of states that allow similar gaming.

Nebraska has four federally-recognized tribes: the Omaha, Ponca, Winnebago and Santee Sioux. The Ponca Tribe does not have a formal reservation.
