WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 2002

Almost every participant in a candidates forum held in Maine on Tuesday night said they opposed gaming in their state.

Of the five hopefuls for state governor who took part in the debate, only one said he would keep an open mind. That was Independent David Flanagan.

The Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe approached lawmakers earlier this year about a potential casino. The idea was put on hold for next year's legislative session.
