The Big Lagoon Rancheria has until the end of the week to extend its plan for an off-reservation casino in Barstow, California.
The tribe is based hundreds of miles from Barstow. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) agreed to an off-reservation casino because the rancheria is located in an environmentally sensitive area.
As part of the deal, the tribe dropped plans for a casino on the rancheria and agreed to host side-by-side casinos with the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians. But lawmakers have failed to act on compacts for the two tribes.
The tribe might extend the agreement if Schwarzenegger offers, a spokesperson said.
