Stockbridge-Munsee Band hopeful on New York

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians from Wisconsin isn't giving up on its dream to open a casino in New York.

President Bob Chicks said the tribe and its partner, Trading Cove, are committed to the Catskills. They say the Interior Department is close to a decision on the environmental impact statement for the off-reservation casino.

Both the tribe and Trading Cove aren't sure when officials in Washington, D.C., will make a move. Chicks and developer Len Wolman both said they are frustrated with the lack of progress.

The tribe has ancestral ties to New York but faces objections from in-state tribes to returning to New York. And Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne opposed off-reservation gaming when he was governor of Idaho.
