Mississippi Choctaws to hire new gaming executive

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is a hiring a new president and chief executive officer for its Pearl River Resort, the Associated Press reports.

The tribe offered the job to Paul Harvey, a former state regulator. Harvey would be in charge of two hotels and two casinos, two golf courses and a water park.

The resort has been successful but the tribe wants to open an off-reservation casino in Jackson County. Miko Beasley Denson said polls indicate voters support the project, which faces a non-binding referendum next week.

Denson said he hopes a favorable vote will sway Gov. Hayley Barbour (R), who opposes the off-reservation casino.
