Gaming tribes paid for Republican mailer

Four California tribes whose gaming compacts were on the February 5 ballot paid for a Republican party mailer.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation donated $1.2 million to the California Republican Party in January.

The money was used to mail 5 million Republican voters to urge them to support the tribal' gaming compacts. All four passed with 55 percent of the vote.
