California tribes oppose charity gaming measure

printer friendly
California tribes are opposing a bill that would expand gaming for the Catholic Church and other charitable groups.

The churches and charities want to use electronic bingo machines and increase their payouts. But the California Nations Indian Gaming Association and the California Tribal Business Alliance say that would violate the tribal-state compact.

“Even though it has nothing to do with the machines, we don't think anything should be done to help expand gaming for entities that are already violating the law,” CNIGA spokesperson Susan Jensen told Copley News Service.

Charitable gaming has dropped as tribes have expanded their gaming facilities.
