Neighbors keep close eye on Jamul casino work

The Jamul Indian Village is building a casino entirely within its reservation boundaries but nearby residents are stalking the small California tribe tribe's every move.

Casino opponents take pictures of every minor change on the reservation. Through constant e-mails, they update other foes like Jamulians Against the Casino and the Jamul Action Committee.

Opponent use the information to complain to local and federal officials about alleged violations by the tribe. But nothing has panned out.

“It's like the boy crying wolf,” Chairman Bill Mesa told The San Diego Union-Tribune . “They can send all the e-mails they like.”

The tribe's 6-acre reservation is about 20 miles from downtown San Diego. The tribe is part of the Kumeyaay Nation.
