Casino Stalker
Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe optimisic on casino bid

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts doesn't think the change in power in Washington, D.C., will affects its pursuit of a casino.

In August 2007, the tribe filed two land-into-trust applications, including one for a casino. At the time, the tribe said it would take about 18 months to complete the process.

"We continue to have ongoing cooperation with the federal government and haven't heard anything to suggest a longer timeline than we originally anticipated, which could be as early as next spring," a spokesperson told The Cape Cod Times.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has been evaluating the applications but an environmental impact statement has yet to be published.
