Commissioners in Clark County, Washington, voted to stop defending a casino agreement with the Cowlitz Tribe.
Commissioners instead plan to seek a new deal with the tribe for the planned $510 million Cowlitz Casino Resort. The tribe has been abiding by the old agreement, the terms of which were incorporated into a gaming ordinance that was approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
'As long as both parties proceed in good faith, we're very likely to get to an agreement," tribal lawyer Steve Horenstein told The Columbian.
The county came under fire because it didn't provide the public with adequate notice of the original agreement.
