Cherokee Nation considers casinos at smoke shops


Leaders of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma are discussing the possibility of allowing gaming at smoke shops.

The idea came up during a tribal council meeting, The Tulsa World reported. Smoke shops owned by individual tribal members could be licensed to install gaming machines at their facilities.

If approved, the system would be unique in Indian Country. But the tribe's gaming commissioner questioned whether it would violate the tribal-state compact or the >a href=/my.asp?url=http://www.nigc.gov/LawsRegulations/IndianGamingRegulatoryAct/tabid/605/Default.aspx>Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

"To be honest, the number and types of questions that come out are a little daunting," Jamie Hummingbird told council members, the World reported. "There's so many ways this project could go."
