Exclusivity at issue in Seminole compact talks

The Seminole Tribe needs "exclusivity" in its Class III gaming compact with the state, an attorney said.

A proposed compact requires the tribe to share revenues from slot machines and table games. The tribe wants guarantees that no one else will be allowed to offer the same games outside of south Florida.

"Exclusivity is a necessity under any compact. Unless they receive some exclusivity in games or geography, there is no reason to pay revenues," tribal attorney Barry Richard told The Ocala Star-Banner.

Without a compact, the tribe expects to go to the Interior Department to approve Class III games. Voters legalized slot machines in south Florida.
