California tribes offer dollar friendly deals

Tribes in southern California are offering recession-friendly deals to draw customers to their casinos.

Tribes are reducing restaurant prices, offering more casino rewards and emphasizing value over glitz, The North County Times reports. "This recession's going to change the mindset of the average consumer," Bill Bembenek, chief executive of Pala Casino Spa and Resort, told the paper.

The Pala Band of Mission Indians recently added several restaurants to the casino, with the buffet being among the most popular. "People are more cautious about how they spend. We see it across the board. It's not just isolated to lower-budget gaming guests or high-budget gaming guests," Bembenek said.

The Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians has cut midweek hotel room rates at the Harrah's Rincon Casino in hopes of luring more customers.
